(They are those llama-looking things!)

alpaca

The Frederick County 4-H Program has offered an alpaca project for the past eight years.  Children learn how to gain the trust of an animal, and work in the areas of showmanship and obstacles.  The project runs May through September, and children do not have to own their own alpaca to participate.  It is a great way for children who are not from farming backgrounds to become acquainted with farm animals and farm life.  The project is open to all Frederick County youth age 8 to 18 (and even youth from other counties, if they do not offer an alpaca project).  The cost to lease a 4-H alpaca is only $1.  Contact the 4-H office at (301)600-1589.

Additionally, there is a 4-H club that runs year-round and focuses on alpacas.  The club meets in locations in Libertytown and Frederick.  Contact Rick German (301)829-0599.
